GreenSign and Control Union: A New Chapter in Global Tourism Certification

We are pleased to share an important new milestone with the signing of a global collaboration agreement with GreenSign, a leading sustainability certification standard for the hospitality and tourism industry.

GreenSign is an internationally recognized sustainability standard with over 1,000 certified companies across 19 countries. Approved by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, it aligns with globally accepted criteria and evaluates sustainable hotel management across ecology, economy, and social responsibility. Built on EU‑wide sustainability requirements and frameworks such as EMAS, ISO 14001, and ISO 26000, it assesses over 130 sustainability criteria across ten core areas, ensuring a transparent and credible assessment.

Through this agreement, Control Union will work to offer GreenSign certification in all countries where we operate. The GreenSign Instiute’s model, which bases fees on client turnover rather than fixed rates, offers a flexible, scalable alternative to traditional certification schemes.

This collaboration strengthens Control Union’s global presence in tourism certification and reinforces our commitment to delivering high quality sustainability services to the hotel industry worldwide. It marks an important step forward in expanding our sustainability portfolio and supporting the transition to more responsible tourism practices.
