In a significant step toward accelerating Malaysia’s energy efficiency and decarbonization agenda, Signify Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and Control Union (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. have entered a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly support businesses in complying with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024 and the National Sustainability Reporting Framework (NSRF) now in effect.

The collaboration brings together Signify’s global leadership in smart, connected lighting solutions with Control Union’s internationally recognized expertise in energy certification, carbon assurance, and industrial inspections. Through this partnership, both organizations aim to deliver a robust, integrated solution to support businesses in meeting regulatory obligations, ensuring quantifiable reductions in energy consumption, and improving carbon footprint management in Malaysia.

Under the MOU, Signify will lead in deploying energy-efficient lighting technologies and digital energy management systems tailored for commercial and industrial sectors. Meanwhile, Control Union will provide the certification and assurance framework—offering ISO 50001 certification, energy audits aligned with EECA, and carbon footprint verifications in accordance with ISO 14064-1.

The collaboration is strategically phased to include assessment, implementation, certification, and long-term monitoring. It will target buildings and industries with high energy intensity and assist stakeholders in meeting mandatory reporting and performance standards under EECA.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to enabling measurable energy efficiency outcomes across Malaysia’s high-impact sectors,” said Mr. Sukanto Aich, Managing Director, professional Business, South East Asia. “Together, we are not only facilitating compliance but creating a roadmap for sustainable transformation through technology and assurance.”

“We see this as more than a compliance partnership—it’s a catalyst for change,” said Supun Nigamuni, Managing Director of Control Union Malaysia. “Through this alliance with Signify, we aim to address not just the EECA requirements but also help corporates and supply chains align with Malaysia’s broader decarbonization targets and sustainability reporting obligations under the NSRF. Our combined solution is designed to be practical, scalable, and impactful.”

As Malaysia moves into a new era of sustainability compliance, the partnership between Signify and Control Union stands as a model of integrated support for both regulatory adherence and value-driven transformation. The joint solution offers a powerful proposition: advanced technology with validated assurance, working in unison to future-proof Malaysian industries.
