PRESS-RELEASE

Control Union is proud to announce it has been recognized and approved as a Third-Party Verifier by the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) to perform Chain of Custody Monitoring and Independent Assessments.

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a non-profit, multi-stakeholder governance group that promotes better standards in cotton farming and practices across 21 countries. It exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in, and better for the sector’s future, by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.

Control Union has played a key role in helping the textile industry meet sustainability standards globally for several years and are dedicated to upholding the highest standards in sustainability and ethical practices throughout supply chains.

Commenting on Control Union’s approval for BCI verification, Scheme Manager Auyan Biswas said: “We are proud to extend our scope and support to clients by providing Chain of Custody (CoC) Monitoring and Assessment services. The CoC Standard allows organisations to implement one or a combination of up to four different CoC models.”

Better Cotton Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard sets the requirements for the organizations in the cotton supply chain that are buying or selling Traceable Better Cotton, or cotton-containing products. To ensure the integrity of the product, monitoring and assessment procedure was developed for all textile supply chain stakeholders.

The Better Cotton Third-Party Verification initiative focuses on verifying and validating the sustainability performance of cotton farms. By implementing the 3PV approach, Control Union ensure transparency and credibility in sustainable cotton sourcing, benefiting both the environment and communities.

Retailers and Brands are expected to calculate total annual cotton fiber consumption. RB members can use the Independent Assessment service to measure their annual BCI cotton consumption and are required to submit their Annual Cotton Consumption Report to BCI before July 31st.

Why BCI CoC Monitoring and Assessment is Important

Traceability is a global demand nowadays for all manufacturing industries. Most of the Brands and Retailers make this provision mandatory to ensure supply chain integrity. Better Cotton traceability solution makes it possible to trace Better Cotton back to its country of origin. At the same time, traceability will also enable us to better direct investment to the field level to support farmers in driving sustainability improvements and increasing their yields. BCI CoC Monitoring and Assessment will ensure Better Cotton product integrity in the final product.
