A leadership opportunity has arisen at Control Union at Manila, Philippines for MANAGING DIRECTOR.

Control Union Philippines provides testing, inspection, certification, sustainability assurance, verification, training and other related services across agriculture, food, aquaculture, fisheries, forestry, textiles, logistics, commodities & trade, tourism, manufacturing, and emerging sustainability markets.

The Managing Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, growth, and profitability of Control Union in the Philippines. The role provides strategic direction and operational oversight across all business activities while ensuring compliance and alignment with Control Union global policies and procedures, accreditation requirements, regulatory obligations, and the organization’s commitment to impartiality and integrity.

As the senior leader of the Philippines operating company, the Managing Director is accountable for developing and executing the country strategy, driving sustainable growth, strengthening customer relationships, expanding service offerings, and ensuring operational excellence. The role acts as the primary representative of Control Union in the Philippines and plays an active role within the wider Asia Pacific leadership team.

This position requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on commercial engagement. The Managing Director is expected to actively support key account development, strategic partnerships, major tenders, mergers and acquisitions opportunities, market expansion initiatives, and the introduction of new services aligned with regional and global priorities.

The role works closely with regional and global Control Union colleagues to leverage international expertise, support multinational clients, and ensure consistent service delivery across the global network. With offices in Taguig, Cebu and Davao there will be domestic and international travel required.

Tasks and responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Growth

• Define and execute the long-term growth strategy for Control Union Philippines in alignment with regional and global objectives.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities, markets, services, and strategic partnerships.
• Drive sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and market share across all service lines.
• Lead strategic planning, budgeting, and annual business review processes.
• Represent Control Union Philippines in industry associations, government engagements, customer forums, and sustainability initiatives.
• Support regional strategic projects and contribute to APAC business development initiatives.
• Monitor market developments, competitor activity, regulatory changes, and emerging service opportunities.

Commercial Leadership

• Maintain executive relationships with key customers, industry stakeholders, government agencies, and strategic partners.
• Oversee major commercial opportunities, proposals, tenders, and contract negotiations.
• Ensure effective management of sales pipelines, key account plans, and customer retention initiatives.
• Develop and implement pricing strategies consistent with company objectives and market conditions.
• Promote cross-selling and collaboration across Control Union business lines and international offices.
• Lead major strategic account initiatives and multinational customer engagements.

Operational Excellence & Service Delivery

• Ensure efficient, profitable, and compliant delivery of all services across the Philippines.
• Maintain high standards of customer satisfaction, operational performance, and service quality.
• Ensure resources, systems, and processes are aligned with current and future business requirements.
• Oversee business continuity, risk management, and operational improvement initiatives.
• Support digital transformation, automation, and innovation programs.
• Ensure operational scalability to support future growth.

Governance, Compliance & Accreditation

• Ensure compliance with all applicable accreditation requirements, certification rules, legal obligations, and Control Union global policies and procedures.
• Safeguard the impartiality, independence, and integrity of certification and assurance activities.
• Maintain effective corporate governance and internal control systems.
• Promote ethical conduct, anti-bribery compliance, data privacy, information security, and responsible business practices. It’s also important to avoid any conflicts of interests.
• Lead management reviews and support internal and external audits.
• Act as the ultimate escalation point for significant compliance, quality, or reputational risks.

Financial Management

• Hold full P&L responsibility for Control Union Philippines.
• Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
• Monitor revenue, profitability, cash flow, productivity, and operational efficiency.
• Ensure appropriate financial controls and reporting mechanisms are in place.
• Drive cost optimization while maintaining service quality and growth objectives.
• Report financial performance and key business indicators to regional management.
• Ensure financial and statutory compliance.

Leadership, People & Culture

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing teams.
• Build a culture focused on integrity, accountability, customer focus and continuous improvement.
• Support succession planning, leadership development, and talent management programs.
• Ensure appropriate organizational structures and workforce capabilities to meet strategic objectives.
• Foster employee engagement, diversity, inclusion, equity and professional development.
• Promote collaboration with regional and global Control Union teams. 

Regional & Global Collaboration

• Participate actively in APAC leadership initiatives and regional strategic programs.
• Support multinational customer relationships and cross-border service delivery.
• Share best practices, innovations, technical knowledge, and commercial opportunities with other offices
• Contribute to regional growth plans and strategic account management programs.

Requirements

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, Food Sciences, Sustainability, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of senior leadership experience within certification, inspection, testing, assurance, sustainability, professional services, or related industries.
• Proven experience managing P&L responsibility and business operations.
• Strong commercial leadership and business development track record.
• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience developing and executing strategic growth plans.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
• Ability to operate effectively within an international and matrix organization.
• Good language proficiency of English

Desirable

• Experience within TIC (Testing, Inspection & Certification) industries.
• Experience with sustainability, ESG, certification, verification, traceability, carbon, plastics, agriculture, food, aquaculture, forestry, or supply chain programs.
• Experience working within multinational organizations.
• Existing network within relevant Philippine industries and government stakeholders.
• Regional or international management experience.
• Professional Management degree like MBA
• Able to speak local languages like Tagalog and Bisaya
